When Dust awoke the next morning, he could already hear the sounds of Haley’s forge running. He sat up slowly, rubbing his eyes as he remembered what had transpired the night before.
It hurt him, he realized. He wasn’t lying, but she didn’t believe him. It made him feel angry. He’d considered Haley a friend, and a rather good one at that. She’d done so much by making him weapon augments and armour for his long journey ahead. But regardless, Dust understood. Even while doing business, they’d had occasional conversations which started suddenly and ended just as quickly. Dust knew those conversations had suddenly ground to a halt the second he’d died. And Haley was forced to live with silence for an entire year. It probably hurt her more than anything, considering she really did like him. A lot for that matter.
